A paw sunk into the sand, little grains of the stuff burrowing itself into the midnight fur, blending in flawlessly. The only hint that they existed was the gritty feeling that spread across the toes and pads of the wolf as it walked, pausing only to shake the water from its fur. The creature had swum quite some distance, from a strange land known as Kavik that she had remained in for the longest time out of any of her stays since Kleur. Kavik is where she had gotten the nickname 'Soul Seer'. Wolves had whispered of strange powers, that the wolf was some sort of witch.

This was all absurd, of course. There was no such thing as magic, a fact the wolf knew all too well. If magic did exist, and if the she-wolf had it in her possession, she never would have left this place. Never would have kicked off from the black sand beaches all those years ago, the same beaches that she returned to now. She had heard whispers, an inkling of an existence returning to this land. Though she ought to know better now, she returned one last time, hoping to find that everything had reverted to its original state.

Don't be foolish, Lilitu. You know nothing will ever be the same again.

Yes, Lilitu. She had finally returned to Traum. Third time's the charm, right? It had been nearly two years, if she counted correctly, since she had last seen Memphis. Maybe she would be here, in this place once more. Maybe an old face, whether friend or foe, could right her path and set her on her feet once more. Perhaps she just needed a reminder of the wolf she used to be. All of these thoughts swirled through her head, but her expression never changed. Ever stony, ever stern, she remained just as stoic as the day she had slaughtered her family, as the day she had watched Krieger fall, as the day that she had turned her back on her brother Nikolai. The brother who found her on Kavik and told her to run, that she wasn't worth calling sister anymore, only Hunted, and that if she stayed she would die.

Stony her expression may be, but that spark of hope within her began to burn brighter, coming closer to the size it was when she had found this place the first time. It was as if the lands of Traum themselves held some sort of healing property for Lilitu. It was as if this land kept her healthy. She stared out at the black sand beach, looking up at the landscape that connected. The mountains in the distance. In that direction, the lake, over there would take you to the swamp that had hidden the Order from the rest of the world. There, the lands of Lucifer's Family. Her family. Turning around, she faced the frigid waters from whence she came. This would be the last time that she would ever set foot in them again with the intention of leaving. She would make her home here if it was the last thing she did. The water lapped at her toes and she smiled at the thought. Home. The word she had desired to utter for so long was finally on the tip of her tongue. She was so wrapped up in reminiscing and hopefulness that she wouldn't even notice if someone came up behind her and chomped on her hind leg. That fire within was all she could focus on, oh how she had missed it.

590-something words. Heck.

This was the farthest north she had trekked since returning. Perhaps within the weeks she would cross the natural bridge that had forged itself between Traum and the northern island that reeked over other wolves. It would be intriguing to see what the years have left and brought for the canines of the ice mountains. Among Traum where the habitat was mutual, all four season present yet all evened out to be what could be considered paradise, as this was her home through and through.

The day was coming to a quick end, as she had been working hard to scent within a good distance from the Lucifer lands. Let all those who roam know that the red silken queen still treks about. Lengthy legs guided her with grace over the familiar terrain. To those who loved twisted beauty, the midnight beach was always enlightening. And for a stifling moment, she pictured a time when Kirill paced the beach with her. But life was no perfect fairy tail, as he could only be with her when she took the last dance with Lucifer. Yet here she was, chest still holding that precious organ that pumped liquid life through her veins.

And so when her paw finally stuck into the sand's edge, the view of the ocean's horizon opening up. The Mountains of the northern island held strong only miles away to the west. But that's not what was catching her long nose, which was suddenly obsessed with something extreme and teasing. The sun still bellowed on the ocean's line, orange rays illuminating her autumn tinted coat as she lightly galloped.

The waves went silent as her wine red eyes caught sight of what was tugging at her heart. The eerie black form was undeniable, she knew every curve of ebony fur and that tint of forest green eyeing the ocean, yards away. Something extremely uncharacteristic exploded from her maw, a slight yip/howl of excitement. Her chest swelled with warmth, daring the gods that if this was an illusion she'd damn them forever. (as if she didn't already)

"Lilitu! Lili!" Her silken, aged voice was overwhelmed by a childish feeling. Let no other witness her actions as she gripped the sand with her paws, speed building. Stilts ran over the unstable sand, as her light frame hadn't a care as it crashed into her life long friends'. Muzzle digging into her mane, taking in the sweet scent, she would never let it fade from her nose again...

Old friends, like old swords, are still trusted best. - John Webster

The wind stirred the she-wolf's fur and she let out a heavy sigh, one of near-contentment. There were still a few things missing. Memphis, Krieger...Krieger. A bolt of pain shot through her chest at the thought of the russet-colored male. Though he had been smaller than her, he'd been able to tame the wild wolf. Since his disappearance, what Lilitu assumed was his death, she'd locked that part of her heart away, swearing she'd never let it out. Who had time for joy and love and daydreaming if all that came from it was pain?

Her eyes drank in the sunset. These colors she had found nowhere else that she had roamed. Nowhere but Traum held such majestic beauty, such mystery and at the same time such a welcoming atmosphere. Even after all of the strife that this island had experienced, despite the fact that every inch of its soil was permeated with sickness and death, it still felt like a place worth living. The war hadn't destroyed it, the war had simply solidified the memories of the lost wolves that once roamed its beaches and its swamps. The breeze that blew through now had a certain chill to it, raising the hair along her spine.

It had seemed hours since she had moved. She hadn't dared, not really. Deep down, she was terrified that if she were to venture further into the island she would find herself back there... after the war, all those years ago. All of the corpses, her fur matted and sticky with blood. That war had been like going back to Russia, only this time she cared about those who fell around her. The sickness had ripped through the ranks on both sides, a silent killer. She remembered the paranoid whispers of the lower ranks, saying it was some sort of voodoo placed on them by Dragunov. Her lip curled at the name, but at the same time she wanted to laugh. It seemed as though foolishness would always exist in the world. Voodoo... magic... witches... all of it was nonsense. There were no Gods in this world, there were no mightier beings. No one other than Lucifer, that is.

The thought of Lucifer dragged her mind in yet another direction. With all of the feelings whirling around in her brain it was as though she was being pulled in a thousand different directions. Were there any Order sympathizers still roaming these lands, or had they all moved on to terrorize other packs? More importantly, were there any former Family members, Renegades, or Warriors? Had anyone else heard the rumors and returned, or would she find herself an old hag among young blood, new and curious about this land? Did any of that really even matter? She was growing older by the day, and soon no one else would remember what happened here. Even if no one else returned, it would be her responsibility to make sure the new blood knew. Make sure they knew how everyone had suffered before them. Make sure they were thankful for the peace that inhabited the island they would soon discover, for it was not always this way. Things were so different back then, it seemed almost like another world.

She was jerked from her thoughts by the sound of another canine. Whether it was a wolf, she knew not, for they were still hidden to her. She was up wind, and could not catch a scent, but swore that voice sounded familiar.

"Lilitu! Lili!"

Her eyes narrowed, there was only one who was foolish enough to call her Lili and who had lived to talk about it. But surely, it couldn't be. "Memph- Lilitu's questioning call was cut short when a steamroller disguised in russet red bowled her over, causing her to stagger back several steps in surprise. She grunted before allowing her eyes to roam over her would-be attacker's body. The scars, the thick mane rimming the wolf's neck, the black points on her legs and feet. The scent. She was here. Memphis had come home. "I told you to call me Lilitu, you old bag." She grumbled, but allowed a little chuckle to escape her lips. Burying her face in her best friend's fur, she inhaled deeply, relishing in the comforting scent. "Oh Memphis, how I've missed you old friend." She murmured, closing her eyes and letting her heart overflow with emotion for the first time in what seemed like forever. She didn't know what it was about this wolf, but it seemed she always drew out the emotional side in Lilitu, always the side that she never let anyone else see. A tear threatened to slip out of the she-wolf's green eyes, but she blinked them away quickly. There was a line she would draw, even with Memphis.

For the first time in a long time, Lilitu let her guard down, let herself relax. Now that she knew Memphis was here, she could truly say she was home.

Memphis felt her friend's muscles relax, felt this deep tension become released from Lilitu's essence. Their noses were buried into each other's fur, taking in the bitter sweet scent that neither wanted to lose again. Memphis' bones felt lifted from the ground, a cloud of life filling her lungs- making the weight of the world drift from her shoulders if only for a moment.

A soft chuckle escaped the vixen wolfess' maw for getting barked at for nicknames. She was a serious devil, don't get her wrong, but a simple nickname broke through as her main hook of humor in this dark world. Her reaction was similar to Luciel's when getting called Lucy. She shoved aside her thoughts on how the two would interact...

"I will thank Lucifer every day for my true friends" Her aged voice broke through more so, aged like wine which complimented her wise and all seeing burgundy eyes. "You've come at a wondrous time, my dearest, for Lucifer reigns again."

Lucifer has been preaching of the Queen's raising above, grasping vengeance and power. And here she was, along side her hauntingly vicious Queen Luciel and life long beast of a friend, Lilitu. Three of the most relentless and dangerous females Traum has ever harbored. "You must be starving, facing the awful waters" The maned wolfess practically hissed toward the vast seas, having severe distaste for the salty and terrifying waves. "Tell me of your journey as we head home" She eased the last word out, identifying how precious Lucifer's lands were to them. Home, what a fine word indeed.

Retrouvailles. (n). The joy of reuniting with someone after a long separation

Lilitu felt Memphis' nose press deeper into her fur and she couldn't help but crack a smile. It felt as though her heart had grown wings and was threatening to burst its way out of her chest, leaving nothing but a gaping hole in its wake. If the she-wolf thought she could cry, she would say that tears pricked at the corners of her green eyes, but instead dismissed the burning sensation as an after-affect of the salty waters she had just struggled through for so long. This wolf had shed tears twice in her life. Once for Katja, once for Krieger. She wouldn't shed them in such a silly situation as this, no matter how overjoyed she was to see her best friend once more.

When Memphis' voice had returned to its original timbre, Lilitu was surprised to hear how much age was weaved into every word. She had changed very much, just like Lilitu had, and the black she-wolf was intrigued to see just how the wolf had changed... and how much. When Memphis spoke a second time, however, she spoke of something much more familiar. Lucifer. Lilitu's ears perked forward, her eyes glinting with excitement, and perhaps even a little mischievousness. If Lucifer reigned again, it meant there was a pack. Where there was a pack, there was a home for Lilitu, and there was a chance to run alongside Memphis once more.

"A new pack, then? Wonderful. Her voice came out as a growl, tail lashing to and fro as she grinned fiercely at her old friend. "What is this one called?" She wanted to know everything about the pack, down to the tiniest little cog in the clockwork. She wanted to know what stuck, what worked and what didn't, where she would come in, and everything in between. She was ready to belong to a family again, ready to move on from her past and cultivate a new power. One that the likes of her lowly family back in Russia would drool over, all wishing they would be her. So much for letting go of her past. Her family still invaded her thoughts every now and again and it drove her absolutely batty. She shook her head visibly as if to cast the thoughts away from her mind. To hell wither her so-called family. She was so much more than they could have ever made her now that she'd found her niche, so to speak.

Lilitu's stomach rumbled slightly and she grinned sheepishly, finding it ironic that it had rumbled just as Memphis had remarked on how starving she must have been. Even knowing Memphis could hear the roar of her stomach as it gurgled and grumbled, she waved the other she-wolf off. "It's nothing worse than what I've dealt with in the past. I'll survive." Her footsteps fell in rhythm with her friend's, massive black paws trodding next to daintier russet and black. The sound of the word home as it spilled off of Memphis' lips sent another shudder down her spine. She was eager, wanting to spring forward like a pup who had just opened its eyes and discovered the fun in chasing butterflies. She began to tell Memphis of where she had gone since they had seen each other last. Over the vast deserts of a land called Belmoor - ironic, really, the naming choice for that one. Then through the dense forests of a near-Siberan wasteland where she was attacked by great, hulking, white bears. A place she didn't know what to call, honestly, for she high-tailed it out of there before she could get herself killed.

"But none of that really matters. What matters is I'm here now. Tell me more about Lucifer and Traum, darling. I'm anxious to return home.

"Lilitu growls

A cheshire grin bloomed over Memphis' maw when she let her mind revel in the fact that Lilitu was so loyal. All these years she has gained reign due to loyal friends, more importantly because the ebony wolfess was always by her side, always a blessing she was. "Skullduggery Oaths, still tucked away in the original Lucifer marsh."

Her mind boggled the opportunities that were before the Skullduggery Oaths. Thus far they were still small and reeking of feminine attributes. But that was no problem, the females were favored by Lucifer and they will be called forth unlike any other. Lilitu has been gone for years, such as Memphis and many things have changed. The island was quiet and perhaps docile, none the less needing ambition. The marsh would offer refuge for those who are lost.

Eyes taking a last glance at the lovely sunset, Memphis listened to Lilitu always putting up her front as if it were nothing. The salty and open seas was perhaps the hardest personal hindrance Memphis' has had to overcome due to her travels. "Traum is quiet.... too quiet." She pondered her words, deciding to talk of good news before breaking the last of it.

"You are my most loyal friend, Lilitu, I would title you as Lucifer's Talos. The greatest of Oaths is that of a Knight." Burgundy eyes were in step as they mirrored Memphis' proud smile. "We will need protection, it is so vital for there is a new yet all too familiar enemy in the South Lilitu..."

Pausing in their tread through the sand, Memphis took a deep and aggravated breath. Looking dead straight into Lilitu's earthy eyes, "Felines" She whispered like a knife into the breeze.

Gemes (n.) the anger one feels inside but cannot find a way to express it. {Javanese}

The grin on Memphis' face was returned in kind from Lilitu, her eyes still blazing as a deep chortle rumbled deep in her gut. Suddenly, she felt like going on a Hunt, something she hadn't desired in a long time. She'd fared off of small prey but now... now she wanted to run with a pack again, heading straight for a herd of deer to take the weakest down. No, not the weakest. Today, she felt like she could take down the strongest. The she-wolf's ears twitched and turned as Memphis spoke, taking in the new information. Skulduggery Oaths. An odd name, but a name nonetheless, and names meant belonging. So Lilitu would accept it, though she was a little perturbed that it mentioned nothing of the alliance with Lucifer. On the other hand, there was no way Lucifer would allow them to take a name without His approval, so it must be just fine.

"It will be nice to return home." Lilitu murmured, her eyes fluttering closed for just a moment as memories swirled over her muscular body, pelt rippling as she moved. Yes, the marsh was where she truly did want to return to - the place she felt the most safe. She wondered if the caves where she had first met the Queen still existed, where she had been saved by Memphis for the first - but certainly not the last - time. It was a curious thing, change. Traum was the same, ever so familiar, and yet something different hung in the air. It wasn't the scent of death and disease, but it still filled her with an unease. The Oath would need a strong following to survive, full of strong warriors and hunters.

"You're right. It is strangely quiet here. There's something in the air as well... I can't place it, but it's not right. There's something out there, isn't there?" Not much escaped the keen eye of the Russian wolf, her senses honed for strategy and protection. They were what had kept her lucky - kept her alive, for so long. The massive scar down her spine served as testament to that. Without her sense of smell, she would have died that fateful night. A shudder ran down her body as she thought of it, the red hot pain and the wet blood that, for the first time in years, was her own. The temporary blindness thanks to that vixen bitch she had fought on the battlefield. Some blue-eyed black demon from the Order with a white star on her chest. Dierdre, she had heard the traitorous whore called.

Though she wasn't necessarily taken aback at Memphis' order and statement of her rank, a swell of appreciation still flowed through her veins. It was nice to know that she was still entrusted with the safety of the pack - with Memphis' own safety. She dipped her head in acceptance and in thanks, a small grin turning her lips north. This position was perfect for her. It accented all her skills - battle. She would stand tall as the flag bearer for the Queen, and give her life to protect the Will of Lucifer. How it had been before - how it always should be. Never in her years before Traum would she have imagined that she would willingly die for a cause, and yet here she stood. It was as if it was her destiny, to go down in a blaze of glory for what she believed in.

The words that fell from the russet Lady's maw next sent a spear of ice through her heart. New, yet all too familiar. So the two had encountered them together somewhere. If they were new, then at least Lilitu could relax knowing that it wasn't the Order remounting their forces, building up for another war. But... what else was there? Memphis hadn't been there for the bears, surely no wolves had come for her from Russia - they had to have long since forgotten their lost Princess. What did that leave? Lilitu racked her memories, running back through everything that the two had been through together. When she finally realized, a roar of blinding rage ran through her, hot as the fires that had raged across Traum, while a blinding white icicle of something you could maybe even call fear pierced the she-wolf's blackened heart.

The two spoke the word together, Memphis' voice a mere whisper, while Lilitu's was a great beast that rumbled forth from her chest, deep and threatening, her eyes blazing no longer with excitement, but fury. "Felines. The wolf bared her teeth, ears pinned back against her skull as she thought of all that the freakish beasts had put her and Memphis through when they had been enslaved for a short time. "So they have returned to haunt us. Is the Oath prepared to take down any who should decide to trespass?" Her voice was still a snarl, tinged with disdain and disgust. The she-wolf's mind churned with strategies, battlements and methods of increasing their strength. Unless someone else within the pack had knowledge of the feline isle that had a penchant for enslaving the lupus kin, then it would be up to Memphis and Lilitu to teach their family to fight them. Felines were barbaric, twisted creatures with no sense of self, who lacked all morals. They would betray even their brother to achieve their goals, even The White Wolf would never go so far. Though Memphis had not said it, Lilitu was nearly certain what this meant. There would be another fight.

The wolf took in a deep breath, finally daring to breach the topic no one wanted to mention, though she knew it had to be done. "And what of the Order?"

Large bat like ears swiveled out toward inland as she was still unsure how to accept the truth herself. Though she had to admit she hadn't seen them around yet, she smelt them from the South. Large, agile beasts- though intelligence was an equal matter- these felines had presented their ability to humanize and gain from other's loss. Retched creatures, really, daring to think their own lives and pleasures are more important than others. If it was one thing the Traum wolves have learned from the recent years, is that equality is key to handling peace.

Virtus was a far off feline island, perhaps that is where some of these big cats were coming from. Memphis had been captured there, by a tiger shortly after leaving Kleur and those dark days were something she hadn't dare to share with others other than Lilitu. Despite her intense personality and soul need to be a leader, the maned wolfess was forced to cavern work, waiting hand and foot on slum lord felines. Just remembering the smell was enough to turn her stomach.

Visibly shaking, Memphis continued to walk, to feel the fresh free ocean breeze rustle her red fur. However it was also another feline who saved her from that place, seen she did not belong in the hell hole. A cheetah, Shaka, was a kind gypsy soul that embraced her potential, gathering her wits in 'buying' her away from servitude. And with her first chance she ran away, swimming the horrible seas, to get away from the nightmare she had encountered.

And now they were here?

Cringing, Memphis spoke low and with a slightly uncertain tone. "We are not to advance on them yet, special training will need to be discussed." She pictured the lion's paw swiping at her lithe frame, her speed would have to be her greatest ally. "I will be traveling down to the southern island very soon, in hopes they are not just knavish slaving beasts."

The order? The vixen had to swindle her mind into not letting herself trip as they made their way west. She had not thought of that.. she has not let her mind ponder the idea that a white demon may be following her every step. That the order was just upon the edges, waiting and watching, to destroy everyone and everything. No, no the wolfess hasn't caught scent of anything so vile, rather the island was a sorrowed, silent realm. "My chest throbs with an instinct that they no longer exist. We will have our own orders set to kill any order members on site, however."

Wine eyes followed the sky, tracing over the summer clouds. "Such events will not befall Traum again." Not under my watch.

Yaraana (n.) a closely knit friendship and connection - a sense of 'blood-brothers' {Hindi}

We are not to advance on them yet, special training will need to be discussed. A growl tore from the throat of the massive black behemoth at her leader's words, her ears still pinned flat against her skull. This was the difference between the two - Memphis was much more level-headed, and Lilitu itched for the chance to fight, to take back everything those bastard felines had taken from her, namely her dignity. To be enslaved by such filth, used for their sick and twisted schemes was the lowest she had ever sunk. She had been so sure that Memphis would feel the same way. Lilitu was well aware that these were not the same cats of Virtus - at least the likelihood that they were was slim - and that Memphis had been saved by some wandering cheetah, but the rights of one do not forgive the wrongs of all.

The next word's out of Memphis' mouth made Lilitu stop dead in her tracks, her head whipping around so she could stare at the maned beast. "You're going to visit them?! Willingly? Memphis have you lost your mind?" The wolf's green eyes were wide as saucers, and her mouth hung open if only slightly, though she moved swiftly to catch up with the still-moving stilt legged female. Despite her objections, Lilitu knew in her gut that Memphis would go anyway. "If you are really that set on visiting that vile place, at least let me accompany you. You know as well as I do that you need both speed and strength to take down a cat." Her eyes were narrowed as she analyzed her friend. Memphis had been known to make some questionable, life-threatening decisions in the past, certainly, but she never thought the wolf would willingly tangle with felines ever again. Surely she wasn't going to give the beasts a chance and end up getting herself killed in the process.

"If you insist upon waiting to train the others, at least let me head that once we return. I'll not sit around waiting for you to return beaten and bloody to an ill-prepared pack." Lilitu spoke as though her accompanying Memphis was already a guarantee, like she was preparing for the journey herself. In a way, really, she was. Once the femme made up her mind it was difficult to get her to change it, even if you were her best friend. Her eyes held a note of finality, as if she was daring Memphis to argue this with her.

The she-wolf had watched Memphis nearly stumble at her mention of the Order, and the wolf immediately regretted the decision - what if there was something? She truly couldn't believe that the order would have any power left after war, disease, and fire decimated these lands, not after Dragunov had simply disappeared, the bastard. She always knew that somewhere, deep beneath the facade of strength, he was a coward. Though part of her was thankful for that - she would hate to consider what could have happened if he had maintained his reign of terror. Such events will not befall Traum again. Lilitu's eyes flickered over to the wolf beside her. "Let's just hope that your instincts about the cats prove true as well." Her voice held a note of acidity - as if she wanted to yell at Memphis and call her a fool, but she would never dare to do such a thing. Even if she hated the decision her friend was making, at the end of the day, even if it was a bit of a fight to get there, Lilitu would follow the other femme and do as she commanded, regardless of how much she hated it.

She knew Memphis would be angry with her for her bold manner of speaking, but perhaps it was something about being home again - it made her more daring, more willing to speak her mind. She let out a heavy breath and stared up at the sky, her eyes drinking in the clouds and the moon that began to peek out from behind his hiding place. Then again, despite Memphis' anger, if the she-wolf knew her friend at all, and Lilitu certainly hoped Memphis did know her, the femme would know that she meant no harm by her words. Lilitu was just concerned about losing her friend, and her home, once more. It wasn't something she was willing to risk, even if it meant butting heads with her best friend.

Lilitu's words were like lightening, striking close and hard to Memphis' delicate chest cavity. Her harsh tone echoed Memphis' own thoughts despite her claims just now. Yes she would visit these creatures, but why haven't they trekked and claimed all of Traum thus far? Lucifer beckoned Memphis in the most mysterious ways and she felt it important she knew just what to worry about.

The ebony gypsy was her longest, beloved friend in this short life. Time and time again, no other wolf has proven themselves more loyal. Her overwhelming reaction was all just a wave of caring emotions and stressed assumptions. "I will not simply waltz upon Topazus, Lilitu. Rather I will wait- ready to make a quick retreat if need be. I know Traum's veins as if they were my own."

She breathed heavily, turning her head slightly to let her heavy and anxious eyes find Lilitu's. Acknowledging her words, how easily it could be for a big cat to over power the lithe maned wolfess. Unsettling for sure, and another reason for Memphis' to pry into just what their strengths are, over the felines.

"If you wish to be with me, then so be it." Was all she said on the matter, though within her mind she was already planning to set for South as soon as she parted to finish her duties. Currently the Traum island was beginning to overwhelmingly smell of just Oath members.

"I will be rounding an end to my course past the falls, " She paused, it was unlike her but the vixen queen felt the need to clear her mind before discussing anything feline related topic with Luciel. She was thinking like a diplomat, taking her chances instead of waiting and letting the distress catch up to her like years before.

"The pack is still tucked away within the Lucifer's Marsh, and as soon as I return," she paused and let a familiar and reassuring smile warm her face. "we will begin tactics on battle and protection against the big cats."

Blinking once, she did not care if some would say she has become 'soft'. No, by no means, her armor has thickened harder than it ever was. However those who were within her soul's circle were being held close from now on., smothered even. "Embrace your travels home, sister." Touching her nose softly to the center of Lilitu's forehead, the infamous Queen slithered into the thick woods.
